Dentures

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth from a single tooth to a complete dentition.

A flexible denture is pliable and less prone to fracture and can be made with a clear or gum coloured base. They have integral flexible clasps to grip onto your teeth. They are more difficult to repair and would expect to last a few years before requiring replacement.

A conventional acrylic denture is hard and has minimal flex. Acetyl[tooth-coloured] clasps can now be utilised to grip your teeth rather than the conventional wire clasps. Teeth can be more easily added to an acrylic denture. Acrylic wears and may require replacement after 5-10 years.

A cobalt chromium denture is very thin base in comparison to acrylic dentures and can be designed to minimise both the thickness and coverage of your gums which affords you better heat transfer and taste. Clasps are typically metal and teeth are attached to the metal framework with gum coloured acrylic.
